Han Jiang Ancestral Temple
Awarded the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Heritage Award for Cultural Heritage Conservation in the year 2006, the Han Jiang Ancestral Temple is the only Teochew-style temple in Georgetown dedicated to the Taoist God of the North (a Teochew patron deity).
This fascinating building is literally the heart of Teochew culture in Penang. It has recently undergone restoration work under the hand of traditional master craftsmen specially brought in from China. If you’re strolling through the busy streets of Georgetown and seeking some much-needed peace and quiet, this 1870 temple will embrace you with a rare tranquillity both inside and out.
